Basic Infomation

Basic Infomation
The Jodo temple called Zendoji founded by Takachika used to stand here. At the site of Zendoji Temple, a temple was constructed in the late Kamakura period to take over the role of the Chorakuji Temple, which was built by Hojo Masako where she would pray for the soul of her husband Minamoto Yoritomo and was later destroyed by fire. The temple was later named Anyoin, which is Masako's Buddhist name. Its main sanctuary houses statues of Senju-kannon - a Kannon with one thousand hands and one thousand eyes - Bishamon - the god of war, one of Kamakura's seven gods - and Hojo Masako.
